Sad to leave but Happy to go...

Mboté na bino!! (hello everyone!)

This is Gessye from Congo B. I hope you are excited to read about my part of the fulbright story!

I am finding myself in the heart of Manhattan but still can't believe it, i could have never imagined two years ago that i would get a prestigious scholarship that would let me study at great schools (St John's , American University), discover amazing places in the USA (New York City, Washington DC) and Meet amazing individuals (Fulbright Fam as i call it, St Johns staff as well as taxi drivers...well the last part is another story lol ).

One story short: i was dupped by a taxi driver who charged me 200usd from the airport to the school... Well it wasn't that long of a story ;),at least he brought me here safely and i got a gift card so in my head it was refunded, please do not talk about it much it saddens me lol :p

I feel so privileged to be part of this experience from which i know i will get good friendships, education and experience! We've started classes already, and i can tell you that we are learning goooo
ood stuff (let's talk money, interesting seminar, watch out for tips on how to manage money matters , it is always good to share!) and St John's staff is truly amazing, always smiling and ready to help, i truly have never experienced it before in a school, i hope it will be like that wherever i go...

From Africa to America, different cultures, different people, everything is not the same, but as the same blood goes through our veins we notice the same love, smile and warmth, meaning that we can get a second family in a place where we came alone.

Sad to leave but Happy to go! This is the feeling i think we are all sharing right now as newcomers, but i believe that it is worth it so let us be Strong and Enjoy the programs prepared for us!

and again we can say Thank You Fulbright!!!!

See you soon!!

Gessye.

  1. I cannot understand anything from let's talk money lecture. It was the Jet lag, I felt sleepy and my world is shaking like I am going to pass out. So it's good for you if you think that is a good lecture.

    1. Hey rio, the jetlag was really bad, sorry... the lecture was basically tips on how to manage your money over here, good tool for your day to day life in the US. Some basics were to open a checking and savings account, to prefer debit cards and secured credit cards, find ways to get more services for less money at the bank, and also be careful to not have your identity stolen when buying online or doing a transaction at the ATM!
